End client: British multinational defence, security and aerospace company.


-Preferably Degree Qualified with extensive experience in Project Management within a supply chain environment with Technical and Commercial skills as appropriate or equivalent
-Problem solving skills and effective communication to promote “involvement” of team players
-Able to develop effective strategies for negotiating with suppliers
-Application of lean tools & behaviours / six sigma principles as applicable to assignment
-Attention to detail in the identification and assessment of evolving workload and tender responses
-Positive lateral thinking to develop innovative organisational and supplier solutions
-Ability to build positive and effective relationships with Customers, Suppliers and colleagues, utilising the appropriate behaviours including Prime-sub relationships, partnering etc.
-Interact and communicate clearly and concisely internally within the Company and externally with the Customer and Supplier up to MD level.
-People Development incl. succession planning
-Ability to project manage an evolving work scope and to effect positive cooperation from Customers, Suppliers and colleagues and to direct within the team, the required strategies to be implemented for the successful contracting methodologies


-Direct and manage all the procurement/ supply chain activities associated within a defined category area. The role includes the development and delivery of procurement/ supply chain strategies, and the associated engagement and management of suppliers, projects and other stakeholders to deliver project/business objectives. Representing the Supply Chain team at key meetings (internal & external). The management and development of team members to drive performance.

-As a Category Manager you will be responsible for leading a Category and the development of the relevant sourcing strategy, ensuring comprehensive contract management, value creation and reduced total cost of ownership (TCO), whilst delivering quality product and services.


-Developing and implementing robust Category Management strategies and engaging with associated strategic suppliers at a local and where appropriate, an enterprise level

-Ownership of and delivery of the sub category strategy/plan, including the delivery of agreed business objectives. This encompasses prioritisation and allocations of third party spend and the delivery of savings and efficiencies identified through improvement plans in key areas of category spend

-Being the Supply Chain Subject Matter Expert (SME) for your category

-Collaboration with the Programme/Customer teams in order to ensure options for the projects/platforms are provided with guidance on solution selection

-Monitoring and management of spend through the preferred supplier list (PSL)

-Managing Risk/Supplier vulnerability for the category

-Leading supplier development activities for key players within the category and in line with long term strategies

-Supporting the Make V Buy process, acting as the Supply Chain SME for the Category and ensuring informed out-sourcing and in-sourcing decisions are made

-Leading category contract negotiations in line with spend management and drive supply chain rationalisation

-Act as the customer main point of contact (for the defined area)

-Derive strategic benefits for the customer and company through use of Alliancing, Offset Agreements, inter-company trading and business intelligence

-Ensure Safety Health and Environment best practice and processes are publicised and implemented within scope of the role

-Risk and Opportunity management across the contracts / project

-Build, develop and enhance relationships with internal/ external customers

-Ensure resolution of any contractual performance issues from the Contract;

-Establish and manage change management across the contract
